Andrew Lees

Andrew Lees FRCP, F.Med Sci  was born on Merseyside and is a Professor of Neurology at the National Hospital, Queen Square and at University College London with a research interest in neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s and Alzheimers. He has written a number of  non medical  books on Liverpool ( The Hurricane Port and a biography of Ray Kennedy the Liverpool football player),  Exploring the Victorian Brain a biography of William Gowers and The Silent Plague, a book on Alzheimers disease. In a recent essay entitled “Hanging Around with the Molecules,” he has acknowledged William Burroughs as a ‘dark angel’ in his neuroscientific research and is currently writing about the scientific validity of the ‘apomorphine cure’  for narcotic addiction and the doctor patient relationship between Dr John Dent and William Burroughs.
