Luke Walker’s research frequently examines the relationship between Romantic poetry and Beat literature. Journal articles include ‘Allen Ginsberg’s Blakean Albion’ (Comparative American Studies, 2013), ‘Allen Ginsberg’s “Wales Visitation” as a neo-Romantic response to Wordsworth’s “Tintern Abbey”’ (Romanticism, 2013), ‘Historicizing Sixties Counterculture via Paul Goodman and the Beats’ (Self & Society, 2016), and a review essay on Ginsberg’s expanded Blake album ‘The Complete Songs of Innocence and Experience’ (Blake: An Illustrated Quarterly, 2018).

Chapters in edited collections include ‘Beat Britain: poetic vision and division in Albion’s “underground”’, in The Routledge Handbook of International Beat Literature (Routledge, 2018), ‘Tangled up in Blake: the triangular relationship among Dylan, Blake, and the Beats’, in Rock and Romanticism: Blake, Wordsworth, and Rock from Dylan to U2 (Lexington Books, 2018), ‘Psychedelic Romanticism: Ginsberg, Blake and Wordsworth’, in Psychedelicacies (Strange Attractor Press, forthcoming), and ‘Breathing in Ginsberg, Breathing in Black Mountain’, in Black Mountain College, the Beats, and New Forms in the 1950s (Clemson University Press, forthcoming).

Ongoing projects include a monograph, provisionally entitled Countercultural Romanticism: William Blake, Allen Ginsberg and the Invention of the 1960s, and a research project investigating the influence of William Blake on modern and contemporary children’s literature.

Luke’s PhD, on the reception of William Blake in the 1960s, was awarded by the University of Sussex in 2015. He lives in Brighton and teaches at the University of Roehampton.
