Bent Sørensen

Bent Sørensen has a Ph.D. in American Literature and Culture from Aalborg University, where he is Associate Professor of English. He teaches 20th and 21st century American literature, cultural studies and theory, and various writing classes in the interdisciplinary Department of Culture and Global Studies. His work on the Beat Generation extends from his dissertation on the literary generations of the 20th C. in North America to a number of articles on the aesthetic, cultural and psychoanalytical implications of the works of Jack Kerouac and other Beat writers. Article topics include “Poetics and Materiality: The Spools, Loops and Patches of Jack Kerouac and A.R. Ammons”; “Dream Writing: The Books of Dreams of Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs”; “The Beats as Cultural Others/Exotics in Recent Memoirs by Exile Poets in America”; “Meat, Buddhism and Salvation in Kerouac’s Mexico City Blues“; “The Ambiguous Valorization of Madness in the Writings of Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg” and “Three Layers of Textualization of the Life of Neal Cassady (by Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady himself, and Tom Wolfe)”.
