Fiona Anderson is a Graduate student at King’s College, London, UK, working on the significance of gay cruising at New York’s West Side piers in the work of writer-artist David Wojnarowicz, a central figure in the city’s East Village arts scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Questions of spatiality, the erotics of place and notions of queer historiography and hauntology form the basis of her research as she explores the influence of writers such as Walt Whitman, Hart Crane, Frank O’Hara and Jean Genet on Wojnarowicz’s practice.
