Joost Damen is an MA-student in Comparative Literature & Literary Theory at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. His current interests include the cut-up novels of William S. Burroughs, the literary works of Jean Genet and artworks by Brion Gysin. He wrote his BA-thesis (in Dutch) about representations of homosexuality in the literary works of William S. Burroughs, such as Queer, Naked Lunch and The Wild Boys. He is currently writing his MA-thesis on the cut-up method as theorized and practiced by Tristan Tzara, Brion Gysin, William S. Burroughs and others in combination with the cultural trope of the barbarian/barbarism.
