Laura Martin is a second-year French doctoral student currently penning a thesis on an ecocritical reading of three Beat women writers: Anne Waldman, ruth Weiss and Joanne Kyger. Prior to that, she wrote a first M.A. thesis entitled Hip Hop Dance: Expression, Evolution and Dynamics in Contemporary American Society (2011). Most of the researches for this project were conducted at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia. Back to the French system where she had completed her B.A. in English, a second year of M.A was devoted to another thesis, this time on Jack Kerouac’s novels (2012): Autobiography and Masculine Identity in On The Road (1957), Visions of Cody (1972), The Subterraneans (1958), The Dharma Bums (1958). Her subsequent decision to come and start a PhD in Brussels at The Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) was motivated by her chance encounter with Dr. Franca Bellarsi who agreed to become the supervisor of her ongoing investigations.
