Marian Jago is currently a lecturer in Popular Music at the University of Leeds. Her research interests include improvisation, jazz studies, ethnography, jazz pedagogy, and the relationship between musical expression and landscape. Her first book, Jazz in The Cellar: Vancouver’s Iconic Jazz Club and the Emergence of Canadian Jazz Co-operatives 1955-1964 is forthcoming from the University of British Columbia Press, and she has published several times on the music of Lennie Tristano and Lee Konitz.
