Soon after the publication of my The Kenyon Review (1939-1970): A Critical History by Louisiana State University Press in 1990, I changed careers and became Head of Radboud University’s International Office.  My academic interests were relegated to a backburner, but in my spare time I continued writing articles and giving lectures on American women writers—and the Beats. A grant from the DER Foundation made it possible for me to take a sabbatical; this led to my Not at All What One Is Used To: The Life and Times of Isabella Gardner (2010).  On the basis of that book, I was asked to write the biography of Pulitzer Prize-winning feminist poet, editor, and translator Carolyn Kizer (1923-2014). So, I changed careers once again and am now a researcher at Radboud’s history department.   In my new biography I will, of course, pay attention to Kizer’s connections with the Beats.

Peu de temps après la publication de The Kenyon Review (1939-1970): A Critical History par la Louisiana State University Press en 1990, j’ai changé de carrière et suis devenue chef du bureau international de l’Université Radboud. Mes intérêts académiques ont été relégués au second plan, mais, pendant mon temps libre j’ai continué à écrire des articles et à donner des conférences sur les écrivaines américaines – et les Beats. Une subvention de la Fondation DER m’a permis de prendre un congé sabbatique. Cela a conduit à mon ouvrage Not at All What One Is Used To: The Life and Times of Isabella Gardner (2010). Puis, il m’a été demandé d’écrire la biographie de la poétesse, éditrice et traductrice Carolyn Kizer (1923-2014), lauréate du prix Pulitzer. J’ai donc changé de carrière une fois de plus et je suis maintenant chercheure au département d’histoire de Radboud. Bien sûr, dans cette nouvelle biographie que je vais rédiger, je mettrai en avant les liens de Kizer avec les Beats.
