Born shortly before Midnight on the 31st of October, 1966, Matthew Levi Stevens is a writer, researcher, rare book-dealer and former musician who usually looks younger and feels older than he is.
He has interviewed Eileen Agar, J. G. Ballard, William S. Burroughs, Coil, David Gascoyne, Gilbert & George, Phil Hine, Derek Jarman, Spencer Kansa, Graham Masterton, Genesis P-Orridge, Alex Trocchi & Terry Wilson.
He is the author of The Magical Universe of William S. Burroughs, Apprentice to an Apprentice: Remembering Terry Wilson, compiler & editor of Academy 23 (an ‘unofficial’ tribute to William S. Burroughs & The Final Academy, including contributions from Joe Ambrose, Michael Butterworth, Emma Doeve, Paul A. Green, Spencer Kansa, Cabell McLean, Jack Sargeant, Michael Stevens & David S. Wills, among others) and A Moving Target: Encounters with William Burroughs (published by Beat Scene Press.)
He has also contributed to Beatdom, The Cauldron, Chaosphere, The Modern Review, and Occult Traditions.
He appeared at FINAL ACADEMY/2012 alongside Joe Ambrose, Emma Doeve, Paul A. Green, Lilian Lijn, Robin Rimbaud aka Scanner, and Tony White.
With his partner Emma Doeve he has also co-authored The Sun At Midnight and Last Rites.
He is currently working on a number of Burroughs-related projects:
– compiling an introduction to the work of Cabell McLean (former Naropa student and writer who was companion to William S. Burroughs 1976-1983)
– conducting interviews in connection with ‘William S. Burroughs – The London Years’
– expanding & revising The Magical Universe of William S. Burroughs into a full-length book
