Susan Castillo is Harriet Beecher Stowe Professor of American Studies at King’s College, London, UK. Her work draws on scholarship from the fields of history, literature, sociology, gender studies, political science, anthropology, and history of art. She is on the Executive Boards of the International American Studies Association, the National Conference of University Professors, and the British Association for American Studies. Her books include: American Literature in Context to 1865 (Wiley-Blackwell, 2010), Colonial Encounters in New World Writing, 1500-1786: Performing America (Routledge, 2005) and the anthology of early American writing, The Literatures of Colonial America: An Anthology (Wiley-Blackwell, 2001).
