The University of Chicago Center in Paris (https://centerinparis.uchicago.edu) is located in the 13th arrondisement, a newly developed area close to the Bibliothèque nationale.
If you wanted to stay in the Place St. Michel vicinity of the old Beat Hotel, it’s about a 45-minute brisk walk along the banks of the Seine or an easy 15-minute ride on the RER (train line) or 20-minutes on the metro. There are plenty of good hotels in the Left Bank / Saint-Germain des Pres area, although prices are generally high because it’s so popular with tourists.
The immediate vicinity of the Chicago Center is much less lively but there are some reasonably priced hotels within a short walk, such as the two IBIS, one on the same side of the river, the other just over the bridge.
