The city of Los Angeles was an important destination for many Beat writers. This panel will explore the role the city plays in Beat Generation, and Beat-adjacent, writings. Papers could consider not just how various Beats represented the city, but likewise more sociological accounts like Lawrence Lipton’s The Holy Barbarians. Topics could also include the work of Beat-related writers like Charles Bukowski or John Rechy. Please provide a 250-word abstract and brief CV.
