Bernhard Lang’s new work from his GAME series explores the possibility of playing with musical structures. “Interzone”, a composition commission from the Platypus Ensemble and the Carinthian Summer, is based on a libretto of excerpts from William S. Burroughs’ “Naked Lunch”, compiled by the American Burroughs specialist Alex Wermer-Colan. The approximately one-hour piece is organized in “rounds”. The players choose from mixed sets of cards and follow game rules that determine the structure and course of the game rounds. Therefore, each new performance will be different and remain variable.
The performance of Bernhard Lang’s INTERZONE: GAME 11-4-9, with a libretto by Alex Wermer-Colan, will take place on December 13th, 2024 at The Reaktor in Vienna.
